CONFIRMATION

Confirmaion

The church teaches that “the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (CCC1285)

To defend the faith by word and deed requires a deeper knowledge and understanding of the faith. Hence in this Archdiocese a comprehensive syllabus encompassing the whole person with community service is implemented so as to  enable the candidate to live his /her faith on a daily basis in society.

Who can receive Confirmation?

Only those already baptized can and should receive the sacrament which can be received only once. To receive Confirmation efficaciously the candidate must be in the state of grace.

  • The ordinary minister of Confirmation is the Bishop. In this way the link between the confirmed and the Church in her apostolic dimension is made manifest. A validly ordained priest could be delegated by the bishop to administer the sacrament of Confirmation.

  • The god-parents at baptism continue to be god-parents at Confirmation and should ensure the spiritual growth of the child.  Sponsors take the place of god-parents for convenience at the liturgical service.

  • In this parish Confirmation is administered to baptized students of standard eleven.

  • One has to register for the course and submit an original copy of the candidate’s baptism certificate and his/her parents’ marriage certificate.

  • Attendance and punctuality is compulsory for all classes.

  • As Confirmation is the sacrament of maturity it is mandatory that the candidates complete the required number of hours in community service.

  • All candidates have to attend the Small Christian Community meetings in their respective areas and involve themselves in the community activities. They may serve in any of the following parish associations / bodies viz. the S.V.P.; the Welcome ministry; the Legion of Mary; the prayer group; choir; youth group or any other approved by the priest in charge of the confirmation group.

  • Attendance at the retreat organized for the confirmation students is compulsory and no one will be excused from it.
